Virginia’s Voice

It is the time of the year that most of the staff is very grateful for the Thanksgiving Break.  It is a long time to teach from August to the end of November.  It is the start of the school year and there are many things to organize and prepare for the extra-long school year and day that Tracy Learning Center provides.  We have been in school for 16 weeks: 4 months.  We are grateful for the break.  BUT we are also grateful for:

Dedicated hard working teachers who really care about the children they teach

Teachers who help one another and give support to those learning how to teach

First year teachers who recognize how hard it is to teach at a school without textbooks and who expect high standards and for trying even when they realize how really hard it is to be outstanding

Parents who come to conferences and support their child at home

Parents who check Aeries for grades on a regular basis

Parents who meet with teachers if they have concerns

Students who always give their best and try to improve

Students who make the honor roll and know how important school is for their future

Students who are respectful and kind to one another.

The staff is very grateful we have the parents and students we have at TLC.  Together we believe we have created a very wonderful learning place for all.

PHSA 7th and 8th

Thank you to the parents who attended Report Card Night on Tuesday.  We were pleased you had a chance to meet with teachers and to become better acquainted with our new staff.

The students have responded well to the new schedule and to the rules for Oranges.  We are happy to report a significant change in behavior in all classrooms and a more serious approach to learning.

Thank you to all the students who earned honor roll for first trimester and congratulations to the 85% of our students who passed the first Trimester SWO.  Only three did not turn one in and only 15% have to make some changes to pass.  The grade will remain, but the clearance for promotion will be made when a student who did not pass resubmits his or her SWO to the teacher who graded the SWO and when it passes.

We are very grateful for your support and encouragement of our newly formed staff at PHSA.

Virginia’s Voice

It occurred to me this week when I met with one parent that many of you do not feel the comfort of knowing all the teachers as you have in the past.  While the new teachers were an adjustment to the students, it is also an adjustment for each of you.  It is always a good feeling when you can call or e-mail a teacher you have known for a while.

So this is one reason that the parent conferences for this trimester is an important time for all of you to “get to know” the new teachers on a more personal one on one basis.  The more you reach out to know the new teachers the better partners we will become.  Call this a building year of new relationships for all of us.

The new staff has added new ideas and the established staff has offered great support as new teachers learn our systems and culture.  It is very challenging to be a new teacher here at TLC but all of us are working to continue to develop the best program for our students.

Enjoy your chance to meet and greet the new staff during parent conferences.  Primary and DCS have sent home individual appointments.  Flyers went home with PHSA to announce a meeting date for Tuesday.

The students this week had a review week in language arts where they review all the vocabulary and grammar concepts they have learned this far this school year.

Next week, both classes will be celebrating Thanksgiving by learning about t all week in Social Studies and ending the week by having a small feast in Friday. Please refer to your child’s weekly newsletter for more specific information.

Virginia Stewart

It is days like today that bring great pride to our staff.  We look out on our students at the Falcon tailgate party as we rev up for tonight’s big game.  The excitement and smiles are infectious and I am pleased to share in these memories that make our school more than just a place you sit and learn “the basics”.  It is also nice to see students making the most of their education at the Tracy Learning Center.  We want to have a student body who desires more than just book work and uses their enthusiasm to enjoy their time here inside and outside the classroom.

The end of fall sports marks the change in the season and our thoughts begin to turn towards the holidays.  Mr Hepner said it best when reflecting on our former students who are serving in the military:  “All our freedom and the way of life we all enjoy is because of their sacrifice. There are many of our fellow students that are in all of the branches of the military and are all over the world representing us and fighting for our country. Please keep them all in our thoughts this veterans day, as they make us all proud!”.   Our campus is closed on Tuesday November 11th take the time to remember.  I hope everyone enjoys the time away and has a moment to reflect.

Safety Concerns

We have genuine concern about our Primary Gate in the morning. We have our Primary PE Staff watching the gate making sure students do not leave until the beginning of Unity and at that time the gate is closed and latched. Students who are dropped off after the beginning of Unity run up to the closed gate and wait until someone opens the gate. Many times the person opening the gate end up propping the gate which creates a very unsafe and risky environment for our young students.  This gate must be shut and latched form the onset of Unity until dismissal time. We have ordered a new sign to remind parents and visitors to secure our gate and also will post a staff person at the gate until students are in class.

*Primary parent-teacher conferences will be the week of November 17th.  Please let your child’s teacher know if you cannot come at your scheduled conference time.  Thank you!  We look forward to meeting with you!

In Initial Phase this week we have been busy assessing for report cards.  Wow! We are impressed.  We are also learning about our state and national symbols.  Ask your student about the symbols they have learned about so far!   Remember conferences are the week of November 17-21.  See you there!

Phase 1 had a great week! In Social Studies they learned all about what a democracy is and how voting works.  They watched their teachers campaign for their favorite book.  Then they voted on which book they wanted to hear as a read-aloud.  They even used official ballots.   Mrs. Stroup’s book in P8 won!!  Students also had a chance to visit the Wax Museum that the Discovery students created.  It was very interesting learning about different people from the past.  As Trimester 1 comes to a close, we realize how much our students have learned and have grown.  P1 is proud to have earned the Golden Shoe Award for last month.  We are very proud of our Phase 1 students.

Phase 2 classes had a great field trip to Mission San Juan Bautista this week!  The weather was perfect and the students were so excited to see a real-life mission.  They enjoyed seeing the gardens, plaza, looking for the famous Mission bells and exploring the grounds.  This field trip really makes the Missions come to life!  We are also still working on our group reports.  They are coming along very well!  Thank you to all of the parents who came with us on the field trip.  We appreciate you!

College bound seniors have been applying to colleges and universities. The deadline to apply to CSU and UC’s is fast approaching on November 30th.  Most colleges will be notifying applicants the status of their admission in early Spring by either mail or online via a student portal on the individual college web site.  We anticipate hearing about the acceptance letters.  All students accepted to a college or university should let the Counselors know as soon as they are notified.  Best of luck to all of those who applied!
