We are pleased to announce that our Primary Charter is expanding. We will be adding a Transitional Kindergarten. This program is a state mandate for all schools offering kindergarten. It is designed for children who miss the new deadline for entering kindergarten. It acknowledges these children need more than preschool but cannot go to kindergarten. True to the TLC vision, we will address student levels and teach whatever curriculum the children are ready to learn. We will have grouping for instruction and will offer a full day program. Since it is state mandated, we will be reimbursed by the state so the cost for our Transitional Kindergarten will be free. After school hours and preschool hours will have a charge. The program will run for 180 days beginning in August and ending the end of May. We will follow the TLC calendar. We will also make Transitional Kindergarten children a priority for kindergarten lottery the following year. Although, we cannot promise all will get into Primary. It makes the chances better. The lottery enrollment will first offer staff member’s kids, siblings, and then it will be Transitional Kindergarten students. We are excited to begin this program. We will accept applications during the month of May. We are accepting 35 children.
AND that’s not all. We will also open a preschool program for children ages 3 and 4. This program will use our multiage philosophy and will be a five day a week, full day program. Children will follow the TLC calendar. The children in this program will have priority for the Transitional kindergarten the next year. We will accept 44 children for this program. Applications will be accepted in May. This program will have a fee. Our fee will be competitive with other surrounding preschool programs. After school and preschool care options are also available.

The sun is out and it is time to shine up the cars and break out the BBQ. TLC’s 2nd annual Rib and Chili Cook Off and Car Show will be Saturday May 9th. More info to follow but if you are interested in competing in the cook off please email Coach ‘B’ at: sbalsamo@tracylc.net

Illnesses
Just a reminder if your student is ill and unable to attend school please calls Kay Fagundes at (209)831-5240 or email kfagundes@tracylc.net . Students should not return to school until their symptoms subside and he/she is fever-free for at least 24 hrs. We have had so many sick children at school and the majority of these illnesses are highly contagious.

Attention Primary! Yearbook order forms are being sent home today in the green folders. This is your one and only time to order a PCS yearbook this year! Orders and money are due on Friday, May 1st.
Phase One
The first week back from spring break was great! The students were all so well behaved and seemed to have gotten taller too! The teachers sure did miss them over the two week break!!
In Language Arts, they are starting to read new books and the students are very excited! In math the student are becoming excellent mathematicians because they are mastering their math facts, learning all about measurement and even multiplication. For Writers Workshop, the student started doing research on someone famous that they look up to as a role model. Jackie Robinson, Walt Disney and Milton Hershey are all examples of some of the people the students are researching. They will continue to research their role model and eventually write a biography about that person. In science this week, the students learned all about life cycles. They learned the life cycle of a frog, chicken and butterfly. Ask your child if they can name the stages for each of those life cycles. In both classrooms, the students also received their own caterpillars that they will be able to watch grow into butterflies and then release. P8 even named their caterpillars!
Phase 2 students had a great first week back. They are excited to learn all about the California gold rush and are already becoming experts on this important piece of California history! In math, most groups are working on fractions or measurement and geometry. We are heading into our final math units and state testing will be here soon! Please have your child practice math skills at home using the websites IXL or Wowzers.

The time has come to order your DCS-PHSA yearbook. Order forms are available in the front office and will be going out to the homerooms next. The form can also be downloaded in the link below. Simply complete the form and bring it in with a check or credit/debit card to the front office. Hardcover yearbooks are just $35 this year with dedication pages available for an addition $15. Don’t miss out on your chance to capture the memories.
TDAP Vaccine
A required by California law (Health and Safety Code 120325 – 120375), parents need to provide proof of a Tdap vaccine. All students entering 7th – 12th grades in the coming school year must have proof of a Tdap booster shot. Documentation must state the shot was given on or after their 7th birthday. This means ALL current 6th – 11th graders must get up to date NOW.
It is important that you begin now, to ensure your child get their vaccination and to avoid appointment delays.
Getting them up to date now, will not only protect them against Pertussis but also ensure class placement and prevent exclusion from school this school in the coming year.
Remember to ask your physician about other vaccines your child may need, and bring your child’s yellow immunization card to the visit. Please return a copy of ALL up to date immunizations to school prior to the beginning of the next year school year.
DCS 5/6 Physical Education
On Monday, April 20th, the 5/6 students will be getting permission slips for the family life unit in Physical Education. The unit will start on May 18th and last about a week. Each student will need to turn in a permission slip in order to participate in the unit. The curriculum binder will be placed in the front office starting next week, so that parents can have the opportunity to view what will be taught in class. More information will be given to the students next week.

Congratulations to Aaliyah Jenkins for receiving the Star Student Award for the Week of April 20th, 2015. Aaliyah always works hard and is kind and helpful to all those around her. The teachers appreciate her willingness to lend a hand and help anyone who needs help.
Social Studies:
Period 6 and 7 are excited about their Wax Museum Project. They will perform in May. Look for details to be coming home soon.
Poetry Fest
This year’s Poetry Fest was fun for all who came!! Ms. Rodieck is already planning for next year’s event….

PHSA has had a great week back to school. Our students are beginning their 3rd Trimester and finishing up their IP SWO’s. We would like to congratulate all of our students for their hard work and dedication towards completion of this year long SWO. We know it was not an easy task but all of our students did an excellent job. PHSA will be beginning the final SWO of the year on April 30th.
Over spring break Mr. Warmerdam took a group of PHSA students to Washington D.C. All of the students had a wonderful time and came back to school telling stories of all the fun they had and everything they learned while they were there. A big Thank You to Mr. Warmerdam and all of the parents who had a part in making this trip a success!
PHSA is continuing practice for Academic Pentathlon. We encourage parents of students who are a part of the Pentathlon team to remind your students to study and go over the packets they have been given. The competition will take place on May 2nd.
Attention parents, please remember, if your child is struggling in Math or English there is tutoring available after school through Give Every Child A Chance. If this is something you are interested in you can contact one of the PHSA teachers and ask for a Tutoring Request Form. Tutoring takes place in room D-13, Mrs. Saldana’s room.

Congratulations to Sheila Ho and Joyce Zamarano for the acceptance into the Decision Medicine program being hosted at the University of the Pacific this summer. This is a very competitive free program that only accepts 24 students in the entire San Joaquin county for a 2 week experience in the medical field.
JOB OPPORTUNITY For Student or Parent Driver! Seeking a high school junior, senior or a parent to drive a student to TLC each morning from the South Tracy Boulevard and Valpico/Linne Road area of Tracy. College Early Start Program – Summer and Fall Enrollment for Delta
Parents of students who are interested in taking classes at Delta College for the Summer or Fall 2015 semester need to carefully read the important steps listed on the website at http://tracylc.net/college-early-start.html Please remember that students participating in the College Early Start program must follow dates and deadlines and receive prior approval to take college classes while attending high school. TLC provides reimbursement for tuition for those who have prior approval to take specific classes with proof of payment and a successful course completion with a grade of “C” or better. **Textbooks and additional fees are not reimbursable.**
Community Service
Attention students!! Please check your community service hours to ensure all hours have been entered. Remember to make your own copy of your community service hours prior to turning them in. Please note that at a glance, the number that appears is the percentage toward completion and NOT the number of hours recorded. To view the hours turned in, you must click on the underlined description. Please be aware of the following deadlines for community service hours. Seniors Hours are due May 1st by 2:00pm; 9th-11th Grade Hours are due June 26th, 2015 by 12:30pm (last day of fast track)
Snack Club is in need of volunteers in the afternoon. If you are interested please see Cindy in the kitchen or go to the counseling office for a snack club volunteer form.

College bound seniors: The priority deadline to apply for financial has passed. If you have no completed your FAFSA or Dream Act Application you are still eligible for federal financial Aid. Submit your application electronically as soon as possible.

SCHOLARSHIPS: There are many local scholarships available at this time for our college bound seniors. TLC Communication Scholarship now available…A scholarship doesn’t get more local than a TLC one!
Seniors with a 2.5 G.P.A. or higher and planning to attend a 2 year, vocational/trade school, or 4 year university can apply. Typed essay required (500-850 words). For more information please visit the counseling office or email Ms. Moore at lmoore@tracylc.net. Deadline to apply is May 1st.
Events/Opportunities
Attention all college bound Juniors!!!!San Francisco National College Fair – Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 from 1:30-4:30pm at the Cow Palace Arena in Daily City, CA. Parking at the Cow Palace is $15.00 CASH ONLY. However, attendees of the event may present their paid parking ticket to the Box Office (which is located in the Box Office Ticket Lobby – the first area you will enter when coming into the Arena) where they can receive a $5.00 refund on their parking fee.
