Today the energy could not be higher. The Jog-a-Thon for our Primary children is a great success. The parent participation and the work of our PE department and our two Primary PE Teachers have made this a fantastic event. The colors of the shirts, the tents at points in the jogging, the happiness of the children and the enthusiasm of everyone who is watching is just spectacular. We all appreciate the volunteer parents who did so much to help the day be so wonderful.
FAST TRACK started today for high school. For many students this is a great part of the school year. Many students like concentrating on one course for four hours a day for five weeks. They seem to feel very connected and focused. Teachers love the connection to the class for that period of time as well.
PHSA is focusing on changes for next year. We are changing the name, using a different system for rewards and for earning Saturday School that should have great appeal to the students and be more like the system used in the High School. The returning teachers to the team are very enthused and willing to work on the changes. Mrs. Wallace will be the new 7/8 social studies teacher joining the team.
DCS is enthused and working to complete the school year well. The sixth graders are looking forward to becoming the seventh graders who will move up with Mrs. Wallace. We have hired a great new teacher for social studies for 5/6. Mrs. Hawkins, who used to teach here, is returning as the 5/6 Language Arts teacher. She is very excited about her return to DCS.
The Transitional Kindergarten team is forming and we have hired two of the teachers who will be joining Mrs. Tyler for this new and exciting program. We are continuing to work on finalizing the lease for the property we plan on using for this program. TK will open with our other programs in August. There are a few spots left. This program will be for 33 students. The PreK program is more complicated in getting a license and will not be ready until September. More information about PreK will be available after we obtain the license.
Thank you for all you do. We have a great staff, wonderful parents, and the best students ever!

Primary Charter
The Jog- A- Thon was a HUGE success! When students arrived this morning, they were surprised by Jog- A- Thon shirts in their cubbies! All students quickly put their shirts on and off to recess they went. The playground was a buzz of students predicting how many laps they would do! In Initial Phase, students couldn’t wait for their teachers to do laps with them and we were happy to participate. This was a day we will always remember. The students were so excited and did an amazing job!
We are so thankful for the pledges and the fun memories we made participating. We cannot thank Coach Caldwell and Coach KV enough!
Phase 1 students have finished their assessments this week! We are very proud of their efforts. They did a great job continuing with their regular curriculum while testing was going on. Getting through these last few weeks can be very challenging. We have reminded our students that more learning is what makes our school so special. Please help your student to stay focused as we head into the final stretch. The first annual Jog-a-Thon was a huge success!! Thank you to all the parents that volunteered to help, come cheer their student on, or made a donation. Have a great Memorial Day! Students are back on Tuesday, May 26th.
Phase 2 students finished up state testing this week. They worked hard and we are proud of their dedication and hard work. Students in P3 have had a fantastic week working on their final group projects for the gold rush units. They are getting very excited about presenting it to students in P8 in a few weeks. P6 students will begin working on their Gold Rush presentations for P1 soon. In art P3 created beautiful symmetrical butterflies with paint and oil pastels. Today they were full of energy and enthusiasm as they ran during the jog-a-thon, which was a huge success! A giant thank you to our coaches who made the jog-a-thon happen! Have a great 3 day weekend!
Discovery Charter
TDAP Vaccine
A required by California law (Health and Safety Code 120325 – 120375), parents need to provide proof of a Tdap vaccine. All students entering 7th – 12th grades in the coming school year must have proof of a Tdap booster shot. Documentation must state the shot was given on or after their 7th birthday. This means ALL current 6th – 11th graders must get up to date NOW.
It is important that you begin now, to ensure your child get their vaccination and to avoid appointment delays.
Getting them up to date now, will not only protect them against Pertussis but also ensure class placement and prevent exclusion from school this school in the coming year.
Remember to ask your physician about other vaccines your child may need, and bring your child’s yellow immunization card to the visit. Please return a copy of ALL up to date immunizations to school prior to the beginning of the next year school year.
Star Student:
Congratulations to Gabriel Ramirez for receiving the Star Student Award for the Week of April 27th, 2015. Gabriel always works hard and is helpful to all those around him. The teachers appreciate his willingness to lend a hand whenever one is needed.
Social Studies:
Period 6 and 7 are performing their Wax Museum Project on Thursday, May 28 5:30 – 6:15 and Friday, May 29 5:30 – 6:15.
Language Arts:
Congratulations to 51 students from Ms. Rodieck’s Language Arts Classes. They had poems selected to be published in the Spring edition of a Celebration of Poets. They received their cards on Monday and are due back to Creative Communication by June 4th. The cards have the directions to give approval either by mail or on-line. There is no purchase necessary to have your poem published. Let’s get all 51 poems in this edition!
State Testing has come to an end. The last test was Friday, May 22.

PHSA 7th and 8th
ATTENTION PARENTS: As we are entering the last stretch of the school year, PHSA would like to thank all of the parents who have been involved in various activities and events throughout the year. We appreciate your continued support. The last day of school, Friday June 26th, PHSA will need parent volunteers to help supervise and participate in the fun day that we will have for all of the 7th graders and the 8th graders that do not go to Great America. A letter went home with every 7th grader at the beginning of this week, if you are interested in participating, please make sure you send the letter back to school with your child signed and dated. The letter confirming your participation in this event should be taken to Mrs. Saldana’s classroom, D-13. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mrs. Saldana. Thank you in advance!
Trimester 3 SWO’s are due June 12th. This SWO will go towards every students Language Arts grade. Please remember if you have an 8th grader that has not yet passed their SWO’s they will not be able to attend the Great America trip the last week of school or Cosmic Bowling. Please join with us in reminding every student to be sure they turn in their remaining SWO assignments on time. If you have additional questions about whether or not your child has completed all of their SWO’s please contact their SWO teacher as soon as possible.
PHSA would like to thank all of the parents who were at the 8th grade promotion meeting and volunteered to help secure what was needed for Cosmic Bowling Night and Great America, we couldn’t do it without your support.

Graduation is finally here! The Class of 2015 will be graduating Saturday, May 23rd, 2015.
The regular year has come to an end and Fast Track began Friday, May 22nd and will run until Friday, June 26th. We will continue to begin each morning with Unity at 7:55am with classes ending at 12:30pm. Just a friendly reminder that daily on time attendance is crucial during Fast Track. Four tardies is equal to one full day of absence. Any combination of tardies and/or absences of more than 2 days will result in an automatic failing grade regardless of the reason. We appreciate your support in promoting the importance of attendance and punctuality with your child.
Fast Track is also a great time for students to complete community service hours. The deadline to turn hours in for the 2014-2015 school year is the last day of Fast Track, Friday, June 26th. Any hours volunteered after Fast Track will need to be turned in when the regular school year resumes.
Community Service
Grand Foundation Opportunity– The Grand Foundation is a non-profit partner of the Grand Theatre has an ongoing community service opportunity that needs to be filled immediately. Job duties include typing accuracy for data entry, research to collect data from the Internet, telephone and other miscellaneous office work. Students who are interested in marketing, promoting, advertising and communication through social media are ideal. Time needed is a minimum of 4 hours per week but not to exceed 8 hours per week. Please contact Ms. Arganbright in the counseling office for more information.
Tracy Historical Museum Tracy Press Photo Project– The Tracy Historical Museum has an ongoing community service opportunity. This project is ideal for any student who is interested in photography, digital artwork, computers and tech. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and must be able to commit to volunteering on an ongoing basis. The project will included converting negative film into digital files, cataloging the photos, color correcting and digitally editing photos in photoshop. No experience necessary. All volunteers will be taught how to use the equipment and programs. If interested please contact Ms. Arganbright in the counseling office or stop by the Tracy Historical Museum on Saturday.
T & J Tutoring
