Virginia Stewart

Virginia’s Voice

As many of you know, we received a grant for updating and remodeling the high school.  This grant is being matched by the Tracy Unified School District Bonds to upgrade our entire campus here at Beverly.  We have met with the appointed architect and have a preliminary idea of the scope of changes that will take place in the next three years.  It is very exciting.

The school district is holding a public meeting of the TUSD Board and our TLC Board with the architect to display and talk about the plans.  The public is invited to attend.  It would be great for some of you to attend.

T K

This week in TK has been full of exploration!  Our little scientists traveled to the center of the Earth and learned about the Earth’s crust, mantle, and core.  They traveled around the world and looked at a variety of landforms including mountains, plateaus, valleys, plains, glaciers, islands, volcanos, oceans, rivers, lakes, and more!  They even simulated earthquakes as they played with soil, sand, pebbles, and lava rock!

We are excited to head to the farm on our first field trip next week!  Please turn in your permission slip by Monday!

Primary Charter

All of Primary is looking forward to the MHS Homecoming parade on Wednesday.  MHS and DCS are having spirit week/dress up days next week.  Primary will have their spirit week during Red Ribbon Week, which is the last week in October.  All students are invited to  join in and walk in the homecoming parade.  If you child would like to participate, please have them at the corner of 6th Street and Central by 3:00.  Go Falcons!

In Initial Phase, our first field trip was a SUCCESS! Students learned even more about the pumpkin life cycle, fed goats and chickens, and chose a pumpkin.  It was a fun day! Now, we are getting ready for homecoming on the 21st and a Halloween parade on the 30th.

Phase 1 students had a wonderful time on the field trip to the pumpkin patch.  Thank you to all the chaperones that helped out.  They learned all about what life was like 150 years ago.  They enjoyed finding their way through the corn maze, feeding the animals, and playing in the old town.  They even got to pick out their own pumpkin.  Phase 1 students are looking forward to the Homecoming Parade this Wednesday.  Our theme is Cars, the movie. Please come out and support our entire school by either watching the parade or walking behind our float.  The parade starts at 3:30.  Primary will have early release that day at 2:00.  There will also be NO study club offered that day due to the parade.  October is full of many upcoming activities.  Please make sure to look in your student’s green folder to find out what’s happening!!

Phase 2 students had some special visitors on Wednesday!  Dr. Ken Jones (and his beautiful birds) from A-Team for Wildlife visited our third and fourth grade student to teach them about extinction and conservation.  We learned the causes of animal extinction and what kinds of things kids can do to help our animal friends.  Our students had great questions and Dr. Jones was impressed with our kids knowledge!

DHSP has been assigned Tissue boxes and cleaning wipes. (The Den with the most donations will win a special something from Leadership, plus additional bonus Den Points!!)

English:

The students are now working on a group project that includes the evolution of evil in the story, in World War II, and in the world today with a specifically assigned topic.  It is a very challenging project, but Mrs. Stewart feels the students are up to the challenge and will do an outstanding job.  The project will be explained by way of a oral presentation with a power point.  All students in the group must participate.

Science:

The students started the study of The Cell this week in Mr. Compton’s class.

Social Studies:

Lots of excitement in all classes this week as they discussed which projects they will be choosing from for their Trimester Two and Three final presentations. They will be bringing home more details as we get closer to the end of Trimester One. At the moment their choices include:

Ancient Inventors Tank (loosely based on Shark Tank)

Wax Museum

Historical Character or Time Presentation

Historical Reenactment

Historical Interview.

Math:

Mrs. Dominguez

Geometry continues in unit 3 already, and we are loving it. Some of this is review for the 8th graders, so there is a lot of cooperating and collaborating happening. SWO is everywhere!

Algebra is finishing up our current unit and will be preparing for the unit exam. There have been some challenges with the level of curriculum, but we are overcoming it with confidence.

Pre Algebra is finishing up the unit as well and students are doing great. We have been practicing out integers with a variety of activities channels their inner competitor.

Exploration:

All second round Explorations are underway!

Performance:

Mrs. Wallace is thrilled with the Dramatic Reading that her Performance class has done thus far. Students are hard at work figuring out their chorography.

The NEW Art Exploration has been great. Seeing the students creativity come out has been amazing. There is so much we can do that we are not sure how we will fit it all into the next six weeks. Excited for the exhibit to happen with this great group of artists.
