We wish you a great spring break.  Thank you to all of the Primary parents who attended conferences to learn about their student’s progress.

As an update to enrollment, we are happy to announce that 85% of our Discovery 8th graders will be staying here to attend Millennium High School.  The TK program has full enrollment and is accepting students for the waiting list.  The good news is that two children on the K waiting list actually were accepted.  Unfortunately, the K waiting list is very long.  Thirty students were accepted from the 4th grade waiting list for 5th grade next year.  We still have openings for 2, 3 and 4 year olds in our preschool program.

Recently a parent commented about our extra five weeks of school.  Her surprise was that she did not know that we are not compensated for the extra time.  We use the money allocated for the school year of 180 days to pay for the 205 day school year we offer our students.  It is amazing how far funds for schools can go when priorities are set.  We know that the extra days are a benefit to children that make a significant difference in their learning.

On another note, we recently reviewed our lunch program with our TC board.  They were surprised to find out that in addition to the money received for lunches, we serve over 200 children with free or reduced lunch prices.  This too, comes from our general fund since we do not have a significant number of children for the free lunch to qualify for federal funds.  The cost of the personnel for our Kitchen staff far exceeds the price we charge for lunches.  To offer our lunch and after and before school care program, we contribute approximately $250,000 of our general fund budget to support the program.  By the way, that is not unusual. Most districts have to help support their lunch program.  We believe ours is an excellent service and program for our students.

This week has been a busy week in TK!  We met with all of our amazing families and had successful parent teacher conferences.  The students are making great progress with the help and partnership we have been able to create with such supportive families.  Thank you for everything you do.


On Thursday there was Leprechaun on the loose in our classroom!  He was a mischievous little guy and played some tricks on us, but in the end we found his pot of gold.   On fun Friday we had an Egg hunt on our playground and celebrated the beginning of spring!  We hope you all have a wonderful spring break and we will see you on April 4!



Primary Charter

This week in Initial Phase parents and teachers had the opportunity to meet and discuss students’ academic growth, successes, and behaviors.  The P-6 teachers would like to thank our AMAZING parents for their partnership, collaboration, and communication with us this year.  It has been a wonderful year!  This partnership helps us build a strong academic and behavioral foundation for our students that will ensure they have the best academic career!  WE CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH for all of the kind words, gratitude, and support.  Have a safe and well deserved break!



What an exciting week Phase 1 students had!  Thank you to all the parents that donated eggs for our Easter egg hunt.  The kids had a great time!  We learned all about spring, enjoyed some special treats, and completed some amazing projects. Our classrooms also had visits from tricky little leprechauns. They certainly got into a lot of mischief and made plenty of messes!  Parent-Teacher conferences went very well.  Thank you for taking the time to meet with the teachers.  Please continue to communicate any questions or concerns.  Email is the best way to keep in contact, and remember to email all of your student’s classroom teachers.   Have a relaxing and safe spring break.  Please enjoy the time off but remember to keep reading daily and practice those math facts.  See you in 2 weeks when school resumes on Monday April 4th.






All phases two teachers would like to thank you for meeting with us this week. We truly appreciate the time you took to meet with your child’s teacher(s). Please follow up with the teachers of you have any other questions or concerns. Have a wonderful break! We look forward to an incredible trimester three. We are thankful for our extended school year- we still have a lot of learning and growing left to do!


Discovery Charter

HAVE A WONDERFUL and SAFE BREAK: The DCS staff along with our entire Tracy Learning Center staff wishes all of our TLC families a safe and relaxing break.  Take time to enjoy your families.  We will miss teaching them and we look forward to having everyone back to school on Monday, April 4th.  (If by chance your child becomes bored on break….ask them to read. Reading will bring magic, wonderment, and enjoyment to their precious brains).

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD:  We are on break – but we never stop educating!!!! We are excited to compete in 2016’s Science Olympiad on April 2nd at McNair High School in Stockton. Thank you to the many INCREDIBLE PARENTS who have coached and supported our Science Olympiad students.  Thank you to our DEDICATED STAFF members who spend countless hours helping students, and thank you to all those who have supported and assisted in any way!  Join us in wishing MS. PELAEZ and her AMAZING STUDENTS GOOD LUCK!!! If you have time, please support our students on April 2nd at McNair High School.  We hope to have an MHS/DHSP camera crew filming some of the moments – we will in turn, share those with you. CHABOT SPACE AND SCIENCE FIELD TRIP: The fieldtrip was fantastic! Students took classes, watched a Planetarium show, and had time to visit many of the amazing science stations and exhibits throughout Chabot.  Thank you to all the parents who donated toward the fieldtrip, and an extra big “shout-out” of thanks to our dedicated chaperones – without you the trip would not have happened.   Seeing the pictures below, we know the students had a fabulous time.


TDAP Vaccine

Just a reminder it is the law that all incoming 7th graders provide proof of receiving his/her TDAP Vaccine. Please get a jump on this and take your 6th grader in ASAP for this mandatory vaccine.\





WASHINGTON DC TRIP 2017 – for 6th grade students entering 7th in the 2016-17 school year. Students interested in the 2017 trip to Washington DC should attend a meeting on Wednesday, February 10th at 5:15 in Mrs. Wallace’s room, D10.  The meeting will explain everything about this very exciting and educational trip.

There will be changes in the LA department after spring break. Both Ms. Saldana and Ms. Sierra are leaving.  We are fortunate to have excellent replacements for both positions.  Ms. Langston, a former graduate of Millennium, and Ms. Ramirez, the best substitute we have in 7/8 will be taking their places.  Mrs. Stewart will continue to teach the advanced English 78.

Your students will be in good hands and the transition should be a great one..



Social Studies:

Mrs. Wallace’s Social Studies classes have started their Unit of Japan. What a facinating civilization! Our main emphisis is on the Tokugawa Shogunate, the last feudal Japanese military government which existed between 1603 – 1867.



The dance class performed for both 7/8 and 5/6 this week. They did a fantastic job!




Academic Competitions is pushing full steam ahead. Mrs. Wallace could not be happier with the dedication this class is showing to academic excellence!! We are looking forward to the Pentathlon on May 7th. Teams will be announced the week of April4th.

Washington D.C. 2017!!! Start planning NOW!!! 

We will be having a second parent meeting in Mrs. Wallace’s room, D10, on Thursday, April 7th at 5:15 pm.      


It’s time to start planning for next years DC trip. Students will visit the Washington Monument, Arlington National Cemetery and the Holocaust Museum. What an opportunity to see our nations capital with classmates. It’s exciting to see how many students have already signed up for this great opportunity.

College Early Start Program – Summer and Fall Enrollment for Delta

The counselors will be hosting a College Early Start meeting Monday, March 16th during lunch in room M-1. Any students interested in taking a class at Delta during the summer or Fall needs to attend this meeting. Parents of students who are interested in taking classes at Delta College for the Summer or Fall 2015 semester need to carefully read the important steps listed on the website at Please remember that students participating in the College Early Start program must follow dates and deadlines and receive prior approval to take college classes while attending high school.  TLC provides reimbursement for tuition for those who have prior approval to take specific classes with proof of payment and a successful course completion with a grade of “C” or better.  Textbooks and additional fees are not reimbursable.



NYU Precollege Summer Program for High School Students

With NYU Precollege, rising juniors and seniors can apply to take college-level courses for credit and experience life as an NYU student. Credit-bearing courses are available in more than 30 subjects to fit every interest and academic need. Precollege hosts social events and activities to create a sense of community and help students get to know one another while exploring the city around them. Experience life in New York. Apply for scholarships by April 1 at NYU.EDU/PRECOLLEGE This summer program runs from July 5-August 16, 2016.


Experience America 2016 Summer Programs

We are proud to offer exciting and fresh summer camps in three different cities. We will be offering the Game Experience and Entrepreneurship programs in Seattle, Washington at the University of Washington. The Fashion Design program where students will attend class at FIDM and stay at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Lastly, we will be taking an adventurous group of students to Tokyo and Nagoya on the Experience Japan program.


Upcoming Events:

TLC’s Got Talent Show:  Will be held at the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts on Friday, April 8th at 6:30pm. The proceeds from this event benefit the Class of 2016. Come support our student from all TLC schools in this great showcase of talent. Tickets are on sale now and available for purchase in the TLC front office, the Grand Theatre Box Office and online at






College Info

College bound seniors:  The priority deadline to apply for financial has passed. If you have no completed your FAFSA or Dream Act Application you are still eligible for federal financial Aid. Submit your application electronically as soon as possible.


SCHOLARSHIPS: There are many local scholarships available at this time for our college bound seniors. Visit the MHS Counseling website and select the Scholarships page at for detailed information on where to obtain an application and how to apply for various scholarships.


College bound seniors: most colleges will be notifying applicants the status of their admission in early Spring by either mail or online via a student portal on the individual college web site.  We anticipate hearing about the acceptance letters.  All students accepted to a college or university should let the Counselors know as soon as they are notified.  Best of luck to all of those who applied!


Community Service

Community Service: This is a reminder to all students to turn in any completed community service forms they have. All forms must be submitted to the counseling office so they can be uploaded to Aeries. Important deadlines regarding community service are:

  1. April 4th to be considered for the Community Service Block Letter sponsored by the Breakfast Lions Club of Tracy. For more details or to check on your progress towards your Block Letter please contact Ms. A in the Counseling Office.
  2. May 6th – Deadline for seniors to submit their hours towards Graduation!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
  3. June 24th – Deadline for 9th -11th to submit hours towards the 2015-2016 School Year
