The year is coming to an end.  It has been a good year for us.  We appreciate your continued support and loyalty to our schools and our programs.  We appreciate all the time many of you volunteer to help us and we appreciate all of you who follow our rules for car line!

The year has also marked the start of our renovation.  The high school moved to the temporary site without much trouble.  In fact, the students and staff are enjoying being there.  The car line at that site, despite the construction on the road, has been incredible.

The portables that we rented have been removed in order to make way for the construction of our two story new building for Primary and Discovery.  The portable P3 will be moved to be part of the new building for Primary.  It will eventually house our Kindergarten program.

The fifth and sixth grade students have been on a mission to raise money for our football field which will be something we will want to add once all of the construction is completed.  We estimate the football /soccer field ( a moderate one) will cost approximately $300,000 so they have a way to go, but we applaud their efforts.  All of the fund raisers at our schools contribute 5% of their profits towards this cause.  So thanks to all of you who have contributed to our read-a-thon and jog-a-thons.

This year, we will be selling fireworks in front of Food Max which is on Eleventh Street.  We hope to see you there.

Enjoy summer, we look forward to another exciting and good new year.  Students return to school on August 7.  Primary starts at 8:13, Discovery at 7:55, and the high school begins at 8:15.  Please be sure to leave home in plenty of time to get to school to avoid any tardies.

Primary Charter

Initial Phase

In Initial Phase today P-6 named their town (BUGSVILLE), toured, their town, and even invited parents to tour their town! We had a surprise visit from The Millennium Director, Mr. Saldate and Executive Director, Mrs. Stewart!  Both Mr. Saldate and Mrs. Stewart were amazed at the pride, creativity, and family collaboration that went into each and every community building.  This project helps students understand that it take everyone to make a  community possible.  As community members, of P-6, we have worked hard all year to grow as a polite citizen, positive cooperator, proud individual, and productive worker.  We have learned that is takes each and every one of us to build our classroom community.  This is a message that should travel with students in each and every aspect of their lives.  We have had many discussions about how to take these character traits out into our community.  We depend on parents to further instill these character traits while shopping, eating out, at the library, or any other public outings.  Together, we can help build young adult community members that can flourish in any community they choose!

Phase One

Phase 1 had an amazing turnout for Evening of Excellence!  The students were so proud to show off their work.  Thank you for coming and helping us celebrate our students.  They worked hard all year long. The end of the year is finally here!  Next week we have many fun activities planned, will be finishing up final projects, and filling out memory books. Please check your student’s folder for the last week’s activities schedules.  It has been a very rewarding and successful year.  Our students are both ready and excited to be moving on to the next grade. Please don’t forget the last day of school, Friday, June 23rd is a minimum day.  Release time for Primary is 11:30.  Thank you to all the parents who helped throughout the year.  We could not have done it without you.  Thank you also for all the generous donations throughout the year.  Have a great summer…we look forward to seeing you next year!

Phase Two

Wow!  Evening of excellence was awesome!  Thank you to all the parents who attended!  The students’ Gold Rush Boom Towns were a blast!  The students had a great time playing their parts.  Phase 1 students had so much fun visiting our towns!   They mined for gold, drank root beer in the saloon, had baked bread at the bakery, played games, and were able to by various other items from the different places.  Thank you for all your support and help in doing our Gold Rush Towns.  Water Day is next Thursday.  Please look for the information in this week’s green folders.  Next Friday is the last day of school and all students will be released at 11:30.  Please make a note of this.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Discovery

What an empowering year…..We learned about World War II, we won academic competitions, we worked together to build den teams, and we bonded as a community.  This year was amazing.  Today we shared memories and gave awards to students who hold the highest GPA in their classes, earned the highest PSAT points, earned the most den points for the year, never missed a day of school, are the best-of-the-best in PE, and students nominated by teachers.

Mr. Saldate welcomed parents, DCS, and DHSP students to the 2nd Annual Awards Ceremony.

Staff versus students softball game….it was a great time for all!! After the game Ms. Zaca announced the DCS Kids Choice Awards…….Congratulations to all that received an award.

Schedules

Class schedules for next year are ready for distribution on Tuesday, June 20th after school. Students must bring in their updated emergency information form to receive their schedule. Forms were mailed, but are available from the counseling office if they were misplaced. As in the past, schedule change requests will be limited.  Planning schedules is a highly complex process. Since students are leveled in many core classes, switching classes is not an easy one.  Please note that class change requests for teacher preference, or time preference of classes will not be granted. Thank you for your support and we look forward to another successful year at Millennium!

Fall College Early Start

The deadline for Fall CES Forms has closed. Registration for Fall 2017 Delta College will take place over the summer. If you are a senior who is required to take a class at Delta and do not register you will be placed in an elective on campus.

This week US News and World Report: Education Report reported that Millennium Charter is recognized in the National Rankings and earned a bronze medal. Schools are ranked based on their performance on state-required tests and how well they prepare students for college.

All rankings:  Bronze for national rankings and bronze for California High Schools.

For all of the information listed see https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/california/districts/tracy-joint-unified/millennium-charter-1605

This report compares Millennium with the other Tracy schools in a detailed report.  MHS is the only one receiving recognition of those schools.

It is official, the sixth graders and their families celebrated a moving up breakfast this Wednesday in the gym.  The DCS students have added spirit and excellence to learning this year and are well prepared for the rigors of DHSP (Discovery High School Prep).

Our younger children have enjoyed a sneak peek into the next grade and are excited to being a new journey.  I know that DCS is warmly welcoming the new students to fifth grade.

This week in TK we had a surprise ‘in-class’ field trip!!! We welcomed Mr. Tracy Hill from Fur, Scales, and Tails Animal Show into our classroom. This former kindergarten teacher puts on a fantastic show entertaining the students and teachers with a variety of animals! We recently studied hermit crabs, anacondas, and tarantulas so it was exciting to see them each up close in our classroom. We also met Midnight the rooster, Marsh Mellow the bunny, and Stingy the scorpion, just to name a few.  This was a wonderful experience for our TK and preschool students to share together!

Initial Phase Our field trip was so much fun! We would like to send a special thank you to all of our parent volunteers for their help. Students got to play with and explore many different aspects of a community. The projects students are building will be a fun way to close our community helpers unit. We cannot wait to see how it turns out!

Phase 1 students are on the final countdown!  They have been working hard on all of their final projects.  The instruments they created turned out amazing!  They used what they learned about sound and engineering to create some great pieces.  In Writer’s Workshop they are putting the finishing touches on their animal reports.  They have learned so many interesting facts about all kinds of animals, including habitats, what they eat, what they look like, and other physical characteristics.  We are proud of so many students that met and exceeded their AR goals!  Great Job Phase 1 students!!  What an amazing Jog-A-Thon awards ceremony we had!  Our school raised over $15,000!!!  We have remarkable parents and students that contributed to this.  Thank you as well to our amazing coaches! We are looking forward to the many end of year activities.  Please make sure to read your student’s newsletter to read all about them.  Hope to see you at Evening of Excellence on Wednesday, June 14 from 6-7.

Phase 2 classes enjoyed Sneak Peek this week. Our 3rd graders spoke to the 2nd graders about they should expect next year and all the fun they’re going to have! The 4th graders got to meet the 5/6 teachers and learned about their dens and classes for next year. We’re also hard at work on our Gold Rush towns! Each phase 2 class is creating their own mining city and we’re going to present them next week. This is an awesome project that really makes our curriculum come to life!

We had an amazing week.  It started with Mrs. Stewart’s LA78 class reenacting WWII characters to include famous artists, musicians, events, while incorporating the reading of novels where they brought characters to life. The use of stage, lighting, sound, and visuals were amazing.  Students will tell you that they had goose bumps as they sat still listening to every word.  It brought our learning of WWII together – as Mrs. Stewart said, this year was an empowering year.  We will continue to incorporate music, art, history, and novels into our language arts curriculum.  It is, as Mrs. Stewart said, “empowering!”

We held our 6th grade breakfast on Wednesday.  Students were excited to receive congratulations on an amazing year.  Entertainment, speakers, certificates, and time together brought this year together for students and their families.  The theme and decorations allowed staff to share information about students.

In Language Arts, students wrote letters showing their interest in attending college in 2023 or 2024 (depending on their current grade (5th or 6th)).  Students have heard back from many colleges to include MIT, Berkeley, Stanford, Full Sail University, San Joaquin Delta College, US Irvine, San Francisco State, Davis, UC Santa Barbara, Julliard, ACE and more…..Below are students who have received information from the college of their choice.

David received information and a banner, Jaena received a note from Julliard letting her know her resume is better than most college resumes, and Edith received information and a cook book from ACE Culinary School.

Initial Phase

This week we have had special visitors in our classroom!  We have visited with firemen, a sheriff, a nurse, health and safety, and animal control!  We had fun climbing on the fire truck, looking in the sheriff car, petting kittens and puppies, how to stay safe and healthy, and learning all about what nurses do!  We would like to extend a special thank you to all of our families who volunteered their time to present.  It was also apparent that these families put a lot of time and consideration into what they were presenting.  We are looking forward to our field trip, which will only help us learn even more about what makes a community great!

Phase First

Phase 1 students had a great field trip to the zoo!  They got a chance to visit the animal that they will be doing their report on.  There was so much to see and learn.  Some students even had the chance to touch some of the more exotic animals.  We can’t wait to see the final report all put together.  In Science the students are learning all about what an engineer is.  They are then going to go through the process of an engineering task and design an actual musical instrument.  We are excited to see what they create.  There are many projects happening in Math and Language Arts as students are bringing together what they have learned all trimester.  There are many activities scheduled for this month.  Please make sure you check your student’s newsletter and green folders for upcoming events and dates.  It was a great kick off to summer almost being upon us as the students dressed in their final spirit wear and celebrated “Beach Day!”  Keep your student focused….we still have 3 more weeks of school!

Phase Two

Wow!  Phase showed school spirit and looked ready to hit the beach and catch some waves!  Great job with school spirit!  Students are doing a great job with their Gold Rush Project!  Students are working hard on competing their essay, visual, costume, and creating their Gold Rush Town.  We will visit each other’s town and Phase one will also be touring our towns!!  We can’t wait for Sneak Peak! Sneak Peak will be on Wednesday, June 7th.

June 14th – 6:00 pm Evening of Excellence!  6:30 Phase 2 music performance at the unity area
