Please spread the word as there are TLC parents who are not on our email list. And thank you to all our students, staff and Parents who have made this transition so smoothly. Moving 1000 students in the middle of the year is not ideal but we are so amazed at how our everyone as stepped up and made this happen. Thank you.
Beginning Monday February 26th, Primary Families will be using the new carline on Mae Ave. Please take a moment to review the video. Our goal is to keep our students safe while being as efficient as possible to get student to and from school.
Please follow the procedures to avoid delays.

It is official!!!! The Primary children moved today to their new classrooms. Primary Charter has a new home. We are very grateful to the Tracy citizens who voted for the bond that made the construction of our site possible. We promise to take tender loving care of our new facility.
I was very pleased with the attendance of parents who attended our information meeting. I am also encouraging the parents to join our newly formed Parent Teacher Organization. (PTO). We promise to make that organization a positive one. One in which parents can feel informed and involved.
Next Wednesday is the date for the move in for Discovery school. Then we will all be moved out of the old buildings. Those buildings will then begin to be demolished or taken down to studs for the renovation of the new Millennium High School. It will be wonderful to have us all re-united this time next year.
Finally, I am offering parent tours before, during and after school on Friday, March 2. Come into the office and ask for Mrs. Stewart or Ms. Kay for the official tour of the schools. You will be truly amazed.
Pre-PTO Message
We are so surprised and pleased with the number of parents interested in joining the PTO! For those who didn’t get a chance to come to the meeting there will be a sign up slip in your child’s folder this week. If you are interested in signing up, please fill out the slip and return in the folder on Monday!! No donations will be collected just yet, we’ll do that at the first official meeting =)
For those parents that have signed up, we want to say THANK YOU! Quite a few have asked “when is the first meeting?” We are working on getting a date nailed down and as soon as we know we will be sure to let you all know as well.
We are excited and looking forward to how we can help our students and the school!!
Truly, Angie, Cynthia and Kristy
Thank you for your support in our effort to make this a huge success!!!!

Initial Phase:
We moved down to our new room today! Students helped us move by taking their chairs to our new room! Our room is now P-2! The students were buzzing with excitement! Our new classroom looks amazing, we are so proud of everything! Check out our classroom instagram for some pictures of our moving day! Our Instagram username is: p2pcs
Phase One
It was such an exciting week this week! On Friday, the students were all able to help their teachers out with the move. They walked their own chairs over to their new room. The students got a tour of the new building and campus. They got to see where the new carline, lunch area, playground and unity will be. The students are very excited to be in their new rooms on Monday.
This week some of our Language Arts groups had a vocabulary challenge and sight word challenge. The winners were presented with medals just like in the Olympics
Phase Two:
Our 3rd and 4th grade students were so excited to move into our new classrooms today! They were such good helpers and are ready to set a great example in our new building!
DCS
We are less than a week away from our big move! Students and teachers are excited for the change. Our new school is beautiful and modern with many upgrades in not only appearance but safety and energy efficiency. It is definitely a wonderful improvement.
We ask for your patience while we “work the bugs out.” This is a large change for both students and staff and while we have tried to think of every question but there are going to be things that we have not thought of. If you have any questions, please direct them to your student’s homeroom teacher.
On a very positive note, our Water for South Project has exploded! As of today, we have raised $4269.70! That leaves only $75.30 remaining for our original goal of $5000.00- all way before our original goal date of June28th! That is amazing and just shows how kids and our school community is. Thank you for all of your support for this amazing fund raising opportunity and I am sure that we will raise the remaining amount prior to our move.

This year’s talent show came just at the right time for me. With all the construction and planning that is going in to this big move I really needed an evening like this to remind of why we are all here. Seeing our students, some whom I have known since they were babies, on stage performing with such confidence was a breath of fresh air. I applaud all of you who shared your amazing talents with us.
The moving has begun and excitement is growing (as well as a little anxiety perhaps). Our TLC staff have pulled together like never before as we work through all the details. Our common goal is the make the transition as smooth as possible to avoid too much disruption to our students. We are holding our parent meeting next week to answer any questions you may have but will also continue to send information home. Changes to carline, lunches and office procedures will be new to all of us but through collaboration, myself and the TLC staff feel we are ready.
I would like to thank all our students and parents in advance for being so understanding as we shift into this new era of the Tracy Learning Center.

Just a reminder…please do not send your child to school until he/she has been 24 hours fever free. We continue to have kids tell us his/her parent gave them fever reducing medication that morning before school.
If your child is suffering from fever, body aches, sore throat and or continuous coughing he or she is most likely contagious and we really ask that you keep your sick children home for his/her recovery and to reduce the risk of spreading this illness.

Initial Phase
We are so excited for our move! We cannot wait to explore our new room and play on the playground. The P-6 teachers are amazed at how focused the students have been. They have seen a lot of changes already and they have not let it stop them! We are very impressed!
Phase One
This week in Phase One we spent the week learning about Chinese New Year during Social Studies. The students learned that Chinese New Year starts on Friday, February 16th and lasts for fifteen days. We discussed that this is the year of the dog and read about the animal of the year they were born in. We concluded the week by making a dragon puppet and eating a fortune cookie!
The students are hard at work at their teachers’ centers! Language Arts groups are working on various grammar concepts and continuing to read their books. Some groups are working on possessive nouns, while others are working on adverbs. In Math, groups are working on using a number line to add, measurement, time and equivalent fractions. The students are working hard on their first personal narrative. They have brainstormed some ideas, chosen a topic and started writing their first draft. Some students have even gotten to start their second personal narrative. The teachers are enjoying reading about a special time their lives.
Phase 2
This week we continued to learn about famous Americans and important events that have shaped our history. Our leadership students were very busy passing out candy grams on Valentine’s Day. We sold over 500! Thank you to everyone who purchased a candy
DCS
It’s moving time!! As the new buildings near completion our dedicated teachers are balancing their teaching with preparation. It is a hectic time but I have to say how proud of everyone, students and teachers.
We want also give a HUGE round of applause to all our DCS students who participated in this year’s talent show. It takes a lot of guts to get up on the big stage in front of bright lights and hundreds of audience members. Way to go Tigers!

A note from the Athletic Director:
In the world of high school athletics, parent support can be hard to come by as household schedules today look much different than they used to.
I’d like to give a big thank you to all parents that have been cleared to drive in the absence of buses, the parents that consistently stepped up to work the gate at football games and chain gang, the parents that have donated in the form of time or money, to all that keep an open line of communication as we see this program grow.
Mr. Ponch Martinez and all of the baseball parents that hit the field last weekend w/Coach Reyes, Coach Butch and teams for a field clean-up day, you rock!
To the boys basketball parents that stepped up to work the game clock when we had trouble finding people, to my “Enforcers”… a group of moms that consistently helped at the door this season…
This program cannot run without your time and support and you are all much appreciated!
Thank you DJ Trev for taking care of our Fall and Winter teams in the gym for their Senior Nights, as well as getting the moms and dads grooving for our two dances!
I do not take the opportunity to thank all of you nearly as much as I should. Together we can soar! #FalconPride

The staff and children are getting so excited as we prepare to transition from our classrooms to our new school building. The Tracy Learning Center has been in existence since 2001 and in all that time we have talked about the possibilities of a new building. We are on the eve of such a possibility.
Downstairs of the two story building is for the exclusive use of our Primary students. All of the classrooms are arranged along one hallway. For the first time every classroom will be a permanent structure and not a portable. In addition the rooms designed for our multiage class sizes. There is a new area for our playground structure, a covered eating area, and play areas for our child that is bigger than ever. The new car line area has a place for walk up parents. The crossing guard will move to the corner of Beverly and Mae and will allow for greater traffic flow if we all follow the rules for drive through!!
Upstairs is for the exclusive use of Discovery. There are two stair wells. One is for the use of 5-6 and the other for 7-8. The Discovery hallway has a set of bathrooms in the middle dividing the 5/6 and 7/8 sections of the hallway. The science rooms are amazing! There is a covered lunch area and two outside bathrooms so that when students are at PE or lunch they do not have to return to the upstairs. The car line will be at the Mae street area as well. Walkers will walk down Mae to the park and over to the library etc. They will not be able to meet cars waiting for them on Holly.
DCS students will not be able to use rolling backpacks as easily and will need to carry the backpacks up the stairs. It is a good time to clean out backpacks and be sure they are not cluttered with unnecessary things.
There is strictly no gum allowed on our new campus. We have enforced this all year but there are still some who insist on eating or chewing gum. There is no eating in our hallways and gum is not permitted on the campus at all.
I am certain you will be as impressed with our new facility as we are. Please be sure to remember the dates for early dismissal for Primary and Discovery. No student will be allowed to remain on campus.

Next week is Valentine’s Day! We will be celebrating by doing Valentine themed centers where we do activities like Valentine Bingo! Students can bring in Valentines if they wish. We have 66 students. Please DO NOT address Valentines “to” a specific student. Instead just have your student write their name in the “from” section. Students can also bring in little treats/goodie bags with their Valentines. We look forward to our fun day next week!
Phase One
Phase One had a FANTASTIC week! We started off the week by visiting each other’s classrooms and voting on our favorite business project from our Economics unit in Social Studies. The rest of the week we learned about the Winter Olympics. We discussed where the Olympics are and sports that are participated in them. In Writer’s Workshop the students started learning about what a personal narrative is. The students chose an important event in their life to write about and will continue to write it next week.
Next week all three Phase One classes will be having a Valentine’s Day party on Wednesday. Please look for a note with more information in your students green folder.
Phase 2
Our 4th grade leadership students are selling Candy Grams next week! They are $1.00 and will be delivered on Valentine’s Day. They will sell them Monday and Tuesday morning at recess. Candy Grams can be sent to any student in Primary and our leadership students look forward to delivering them next week!

This week, students learned how to use in-text citations for their SWO essays. They also learned how to format their papers and add a References page in APA format. They received their first rubric, and they know the expectations for how they will be graded. The first draft is due February 20, 2018. It must be completed but doesn’t have to be perfect. Their essay this week is about Pres. Trump’s State of the Union address. The skills they learn from this essay will help them for SWO (ie: taking a quote, discussing it in context, and generating an opinion about it). They are continuing to learn more about the history of art for Humanities, and they are continuing with grammar, reading, and vocabulary.
Social Studies:
Students are continuing to work on learning about West Africa and working toward studying for Academic Pentathlon.

The New Schools
It is so exciting. Every teacher who has had a tour of the new classrooms, eating areas, and play areas are amazed and so excited. We realize there is discomfort and some confusion with a transition to the new sites, but it will be wonderful. Please be patient and help us transition well.
I have parents working on questions that may be on your mind and they will put together some questions and answers for you as we move forward. The first set of Q and A are included. There will be a parent meeting on February 21 at 6:30 if you wish to come to ask questions. The children will be the first to see the new classrooms. They will sit in them and ask their own question on their early release day. They will be dismissed from their old car line spots on that early release day. For Primary the early release day is February 23 at 11:30 and for Discovery the release day is February 28 at 11:00. All children must be picked up at those times.
We look forward to this dream come true transition and settling in to our new schools.
With the help of some very supportive PCS parents we have collected some questions parents are asking and have them listed below:
What Are The Parents Asking?
When will Primary and Discovery transition to their new schools?
Primary will transition to the new school on February 23. It is an early dismissal; all children must be picked up.
Discovery will transition to the new school on February 28. It is an early dismissal. All students must be picked up.
The next phase of reconstruction will soon begin. The process includes moving out all the vacated portables, and repairing the land and taking down the existing buildings to frames. The next phase is the building of the parking lot and high school. One of the first steps in this process is abatement, which is removal of any traces of asbestos or lead paint etc.
Q How and why were the kids safe to be in the classroom(s) with the asbestos?
A Areas will be marked off and the areas demarcated are sealed off. Children will be no where near these marked areas.

Phase One had a GREAT week! This was our last week working on procedural writing in Writer’s Workshop and we will start a new unit next week. In Social Studies, we concluded our Economics unit by creating businesses. The students did a great job on these group projects and the teachers are so proud of them! In LA the groups worked on pronouns and how they take place of a noun. In Math groups worked on fractions, measurement and place value.
Our 3rd and 4th grade students are very busy in Social Studies! We’re learning about government, economics, and the upcoming Winter Olympics. There are so many ways you can incorporate these topics into conversations with your child. Please remember that phase 2 AR goals are due soon…we are proud of everyone who is working hard to meet their goal. Did you know that your child should be reading for at least 20 minutes every night? Right now we are reading about famous Americans and they are very interested!

It has been another busy week. Students are working on several different projects, especially for Social Studies and Geography. Please continue to check agendas for important information and due dates.
The weather has been typical for this time of year. If your child leaves a jacket or other item of clothing, please check our lost and found, located in the hallway near the office.
The Mother-Son dance is coming up on Saturday, February 17 at the Corral Hollow Campus from 6-9 pm. Please have your student see their homeroom teacher for a flyer.
Monday, February 19th is an observed holiday for President’s Day.
We are very happy with the amount of recyclables we are receiving for our Water for Sudan Project. A big thank you to everyone who has helped us with this important fundraiser- lets meet our goal by the end of the year!

General Updates:
We are Moving!!
In preparation for out move, all Discovery students will be dismissed at 11:00 on Wednesday, February 28th. Lunch will not be served this day, kids club will be closed, and Discovery students will not be able to wait for PCS siblings. Please plan accordingly. (Subject to change)
ALL STUDENTS MUST BE PICKED UP ON TIME AND CANNOT BE ON CAMPUS
It’s hard to believe but the end of trimester 2 is just around the corner. That means Community Service hours almost due! Every year, 7th and 8th graders at Discovery High School Prep are expected to complete a total of 30 hours of community service, broken down as 10 hours per trimester. If your student missed some or all of their 10 hours for trimester 1, they are expected to make those up in the following trimester. Students did an amazing job of finding ways to give back to their community and school last trimester. We’re looking forward to having the same, or even better, result this trimester! Hours are due to Mrs. Prescott by March 1st. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Prescott at kprescott@tracylc.net.
Language Arts:
This week students have submitted their outlines for their SWO research essay. They will soon begin writing their first drafts of the paper. Classroom instruction on how to begin, the first rubric, and other details will start next week. Encourage your student to start early and work on it whenever they have free time! This is not a project to fall behind on. Any additional questions regarding SWO should be sent to the 7/8 Language Arts teachers.
Math:
Geometry is currently wrapping up our unit on Quadrilaterals and preparing for a unit test. This group has shocked me in their enthusiasm to learn this intense high school course. Algebra 1 is also wrapping up a unit and will be testing at the end of this week. We are quickly approaching the next midterm for this class. Math 78 has finished their curriculum outline, which has been so impressive. Mrs. Dominguez and Mrs. Stewart have been adding to the curriculum map to better prepare this group for Algebra.
Math Counts Competition is this Saturday, February 3rd at UOP. WISH US LUCK as we take one team and six individuals to compete.
