Last week I published a list of things we would love to have for our new school. Thank you to the parents who donated to that list. I am placing the list back in this week to see if any of you are willing to help us get some of the things we need for our new classrooms.
Book Cases ($81 each, we need 15 more)

Phase One had a great week! In Writer’s Workshop they had various spring prompts to write about, like their favorite spring activity to do and what they plan to do on spring break. In Language Arts, the groups reviewed what they learned this trimester, by having a trimester 2 grammar review and worked on projects for the books they read. In Math, groups worked on time and addition with regrouping. In Science, the students learned about natural disasters, focusing on earthquakes and tornadoes. Ask your students what they remember about natural disasters.
All three classes are getting back into the groove of school in our new rooms. It has been an adjustment, and we are starting to feel like this is our new “home”. They love their new rooms and campus. The students are enjoying having the play structure back and to have a big area to run around for recess.
Our phase 2 students are learning about American heroes in social studies. We have also been reading about them in language arts and writing biographies. Our 4th grade leadership students have been chosen for March and April and we look forward to seeing what project they come up with!

General:
-Trimester Two ended this week! Expect Trimester 2 report cards in the mail!
-Spring Break begins March 26 and continues until April 6. Students return to school on April 9th.
–Heads Up: 8th Grade Promotion Pictures will be April 10th.
Language Arts:
Students gave their SWO Speeches this week! As a class we each got to learn about many different aspects of Africa; girls education, renewable energy, climate change, careers, and more!
Social Studies:
Students got a little creative this week in Social Studies by creating their own poetry!
CJSF:
CJSF had their final meeting of the trimester this week and even celebrated with donuts! Applications for next trimester will be available shortly.

Volunteers should wear black pants and a white collared shirt. Expect to help with busing tables, serving and wherever else you are needed.

UC Berkeley Summer Experience
UC Berkeley’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions is pleased to announce our annual Berkeley Summer Experience and invites you to nominate your student! Berkeley Summer Experience is an intensive application workshop and information session that is intended to introduce prospective students to the UC application, the admissions process, as well as the UC Berkeley undergraduate experience.
Berkeley Summer Experience will host a residential program for both prospective Freshmen and Transfers on UC Berkeley’s campus on June 15th-17th.
Note: The Berkeley campus program is a residential program and is open to any rising high school junior or senior and California Community College student meeting the eligibility requirements. While the program is free of charge, transportation to the program is not covered and participants will have to provide their own transportation.
To be eligible for the program, each student must be a junior or senior in high school in Fall 2018 and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher; or a community-college transfer student with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and 30 or more transferable semester units by the end of Spring 2018.
Students who are nominated by a counselor or a Community-Based Organization will have priority consideration when we are making selections. All nominated students must also fill out an application.
The application for both students and counselors will be available from April 1st- April 30th. Selected students will be notified in mid-May. If you have any questions, please contact us at berkeleysummerexperience@berkeley.edu.
