What are SWOs? SWO stands for School Wide Outcome. We have 4 SWOs: Polite Citizen, Proud Individual, Productive Worker, and Positive Cooperator. In P2 students can earn their way into our “excellence box” for demonstrating one of our SWOs. Each time a student is in the excellence box they earn a dot towards a SWO bracelet. Student’s must earn 5 dots by getting in the excellence box 5 times in order to get a SWO bracelet. At the end of the month Primary will have a special awards ceremony where three students from P2 will be presented with a SWO certificate for consistently demonstrating one of our SWOs for the entire month.
Phase One
This week was the first week that Phase One had homework and they did great! Students will continue to receive their Red folders on Mondays with a Parent-Student work page. These pages will consist of the following: sight words, spelling words and even the grammar concept your child is working on. Please review the work with your child to help them be better prepared for their quizzes on Friday.
P3 and P4 learned about The Three Branches of Government while P5 learned about voting. We will continue this unit next week. In Writers Workshop all three classes learned about what a sentence needs to be complete and made a fun Sentence Buddy to help them remember.
Phase Two
This week phase 2 students learned all about maps. We discussed the compass rose, explored different types of maps and why we use maps. This is a great thing to do at home too! Our students loved looking at the maps and finding familiar landmarks.
Phase 2 students will begin our monthly walking trips to the library in September. Permission slips will come home soon.
