California School Parent Survey, 2018-2019

TLC needs your help! We have launched an online survey to learn more about your opinions of PCS, DCS, and MHS. This survey is an opportunity to communicate your perceptions about your child’s school.

Your participation is voluntary. It is also very important. The information you provide will help guide school efforts to promote safety, enhance learning supports, and improve student achievement.

· This is an anonymous survey. It is designed so that no one can be identified from the data. You do not have to respond to any questions that you feel could be used to identify you. Simply skip any such questions.

· All questions apply to this school only.

· The results are for the use of TLC. The California Department of Education and WestEd will preserve data confidentiality and refer any data requests to the Tracy Learning Center.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING THE SURVEY

If you have more than one child at this school, you will only need to complete one survey.

TK

This week, TK learned about two very important presidents in our history: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

We learned that George Washington was the very first president of the United States. The Father of our Country can be observed on both the dollar bill and on the quarter. The Washington Monument was constructed in his honor.

We also learned that Abraham Lincoln was our 16th president, and significant for his role in the Civil War. Honest Abe can be observed on the penny and on the five dollar bill.

The students and teachers in TK also began a new competition this week; we are working to memorize all 45 presidents, in order, with the help of a 45 presidents song. The winner will earn 45 cents to spend in the Student Store and will earn the coveted Gold Mickey Necklace! We are all working VERY hard!

Initial Phase

We have a lot going on throughout the rest of the month! Valentine’s Day is on Thursday! Students can bring in valentine cards/goodies. We ask that you send 66 of the same valentine with the “to” section left blank. We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day by doing fun valentine themed centers such as valentine bingo, candy heart graphing, valentine STEM challenges, and passing out valentines.

We are still in need of Brach’s individually boxed conversation hearts. We will be using the candy to do a graphing activity. We want each student to have their own box. All donations are very appreciated!

Phase One

This students in Phase One have continued writing personal narratives and they are doing a wonderful job! In Science we continued learning about space. This week the classes learned more about the moon and introduced the Sun. The classes learned about how the Sun creates shadows and a did an experiment using flashlights. Ask your student about this! Don’t forget to continue helping your child with their nightly moon observations.

Phase One also celebrated Valentine’s Day on Thursday and the fun lasted all day! Students decorated bags, passed out their treats, did a fun Valentine’s Day experiment, sorted and graphed Conversation Hearts and made a Valentine’s Day craft.

AR goals were due today! The classrooms will all have their AR party for those students who met their goal next week.

Phase Two:

This week our 3rd and 4th graders learned about forces and motion. We discussed Newton’s Laws of Motion and learned new vocabulary words such as friction and gravity. Did you know YouTube Kids has some great videos on Newton’s Laws of Motion? They are simple, kid-friendly and age appropriate. Check them out!

Our 4th grade leadership students are working on a “Valentines for Veterans” project. PCS students are working on creating special cards for local veterans to be delivered next week.

Reminder that Phase 2 AR goals are due on February 15th. Students who meet their AR goals will get a special treat!

Here is a peek at some our our Phase 2 hallway projects!
