I urge all of you to enjoy these last few weeks and finish strong.  Summer break is feels that bit more rewarding when you can look back and be proud of your hard work. Well done!

Our TK students had so much fun celebrating their dads this week! First, they created a Father’s Day Toolbox, which included extra-special descriptions of their dads on a: saw, drill, hammer, and tape measure. Then, each child created and decorated a picture to present to their dad at our Father’s Day Luncheon. On Friday afternoon, we were very excited to welcome our dads to enjoy lunch with us on the playard. It was a fun-filled event, and we are grateful to everyone who took the time out of their day to attend! Next on the agenda, is our Evening of Excellence; it will be next Tuesday, June 18th at 5pm. Be sure to save the date!

Science with Ms. Diaz

Our plants have sprouted and we have determined that the range of tolerance for plant growth with radish, pea, barley and corn seeds is between 40-80 mL of water. The optimum amount of water seems to be 80 mL based on both the number of sprouts and the measured height of the tallest plant. We had our last test of the year today, Friday June 14th, and are coming around to the the final leg of the DCS school year race! We start our last activity of the year next week, studying salt tolerance of plants and will report back to you soon!

Mrs. Zuniga Math:

Varsity: Students finished their percent unit test and will look into integers next week. This will be the last concept before the end of the year. The class will take a test on operations of integers next Friday to complete this school year.

Scholastic: Students will be taking a test next Friday to give a little extra time to understand solving equations. The students are enjoying this concept because many feel they are solving a puzzle. We will add on solving systems of equations to finish off the year.

Honors: The class will have a quiz this week to complete the graphing and polynomial portion of Unit 8. Next week the students will get a quick overview of Geometry concepts to finish off the year.

Ms. T & Mrs. Zuniga’s Geography:

All Geography classes will be presenting their 5 Themes of Geography projects to their class. The students worked with a partner to research the 5 themes of geography for a specific city of their choice.

We have also been practicing for our Exit Interviews happening next week

We are down to just a couple more weeks of school and students are still very busy completing projects, finishing Fast Track, preparing for promotions and moving up a grade next year. Our staff is working hard completing enrollment for next year and are already getting exciting about incoming classes.

I would like to take this time to especially thank the parents, staff and students for another successful year at the Tracy Learning Center. It has been a good year. A Message From Ms. Dane- Ms. Dane’s Verbal Expressions/Mock Trial teams

“She did it! No, he did it! I object your Honor! Sustained, Over-ruled “- Just some of the statements heard during the Mock Trial Camp that 16 of our students attended on June 3 and 4 at Venture Academy in Stockton. During the course of intensive training and fun, students learned the basics of Defense and Prosecution, Opening Statements and Closing Arguments and joined with other students from the county to participate in Venture Academy’s yearly event. It was a fantastic opportunity to work with their High School team which is rated #5 in California.

Incoming 6th graders joined with 7th and 8th graders to prepare for next year’s Winning teams and Individual Students.- If the past is a predictor of the future TLC/Discovery should again make a fabulous showing at the County Competition. Major Congratulations to all of our participants – my personal thanks to the support from Mrs. Stewart, Coach B, and all of the parents who sent their children.

SUPER Quiz for ⅚- Congratulations to all of our students who were selected to participate in our very own DCS Trimester 3 Super Quiz! You did a great job representing DCS up there!!

Science with Ms. Diaz

Can you change environmental conditions to make things viable for organisms?? The answer is YES! By adding more salt to the hatcheries, students were able to get more shrimp eggs to hatch. Students also submitted their Brine Shrimp Investigation project booklets and started their next project booklet about the “Range of Tolerance” for plant growth. There will be a test on what was taught so far on Tuesday, June 11th. Keep exploring!

Social Studies with Mr. Bird

VERY IMPORTANT CHANGE for our upcoming 2019/2020 school year Beginning August 5, 2019, we are reducing personal/family days for students from 10 days down to 7 days. TK

This week in TK, our Furs, Scales, and Tails show was a big hit! Check out all of the fun that our friends had with Banana:

Initial Phase

Check out our June calendar of events (sent home in green folders) for everything coming up this month! There will be detailed information about everything sent home as we get closer — this is more of a “save the date”!

With many schools already being on summer break, now is a good time to reflect and remember why we are so lucky to have a longer year/shorter summer break. Our students are still LEARNING! Curriculum is being taught every day and students are getting many extra days to soak up knowledge. In return, this helps with the transition to first grade as concepts are not “lost” over a long summer break. Our students put a lot of hard work in, and in the end it is so worth it!! Keep up the great work P2!

Phase One:

We are approaching the last month of school and with that means a lot of fun activities and events. A calendar has been sent home with all of these dates. More information will be sent home closer to each of these events.

The students in Phase One have spent the week planning and constructing their marble runs. These projects have been done in groups and had several requirements to meet with only using materials that were brought in. The students have enjoyed the ability to work together as a group, to plan and build these projects. They will be presenting these projects to the class next week. Great job Phase One students!

Phase Two:

Our 3rd and 4th graders have finished their state testing and we are so proud of their hard work! We are eagerly awaiting their scores!

There are many events coming up in June for our Phase 2 students. Please note the following dates:

Monday, June 3rd: 5th grade information night (for current 4th graders) at 5:30

Tuesday, June 4th: Phase 2 Field Trip to Columbia!

Thursday, June 6th: Parent Volunteer Appreciation at Unity

Thursday, June 13th: Music Performance at 6:30 (see green folders for more info)

Thursday, June 20th: Evening of Excellence at 6:00

Tuesday, June 25th: 4th grade breakfast/awards ceremony at 9:00 (see green folders for more info)

Thursday, June 27th: LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! Dismissal is 11:30 for Primary

The school year may be winding down, but our course work is definitely not! Students are continuing to read from 7 Sanctuaries (we are almost done!) and have spent ample time analyzing each of the characters and their various chapters.

Each student created a word cloud and two travel brochures in the past week and presented them to the class. Ask your students to show you their works!

In the next week weeks students will be working on several projects to demonstrate all that they have learned this year!

Pictured Below: Brochures students made about their sanctuary.

They must brainstorm ways to make the planet or moon livable for humans and create a blueprint of the station they plan to build.

Technology with Ms. Ferguson

This week in technology the students are working on creating a brochure in Google Docs! This project will be due the middle of next week & then the students will be moving on to an introduction to engineering!

Choir with Mr. Dougherty:

The concert will take place in the gym on June 19th, but this time it will take place during the school day. All four of my classes will perform together twice, once for the remaining 5/6 classes and then once more for the 7/8 classes. As always, there will be some new and creative elements added to the concert.
