TLC Charter Chatter
A weekly newsletter written to parents of the TLC
Virginia Stewart
With just two weeks left to go in the year, I love seeing all the final projects and performances from all schools. How far we have come in one year; amazing job to all students, staff and parents. The PCS summer music program began this week and continues on next week with the DCS final performances.
MHS fast track is just as it sounds, FAST! Working with our Math teachers over these last few weeks has been a joy but I must admit, it has been intense. I commend our teachers and our students for rising to the challenge.
I urge all of you to enjoy these last few weeks and finish strong. Summer break is feels that bit more rewarding when you can look back and be proud of your hard work. Well done!

We have an extremely high number of students with outstanding negative lunch balances. We are currently sending home lunch bills with our students. Please pay these bills immediately. Students can not start the 2019/2020 school year owing lunch balances. If you have any questions regarding your student’s lunch account please call the school at (209) 290 – 0511.
Personal Days for Next School Year 2019/2020
VERY IMPORTANT CHANGE for our upcoming 2019/2020 school year Beginning August 5, 2019, we are reducing personal/family days for students from 10 days down to 7 days. Allowing 7 days is still much higher than what the district schools allow and we feel 7 days is more beneficial for the school and for each students’ education.

Incoming 7th Graders – Very Important!
As required by California law, (Health and Safety Code 120325 – 120375), parents need to provide proof of receiving the Tdap vaccine (Pertussis – Whooping Cough Booster) and proof of receiving 2 doses of Varicella (Chicken Pox) Vaccine
All students entering 7th – 12th grades must have proof of a Tdap booster shot. Documentation must state the shot was given on or after their 7th birthday. This means ALL current 6th graders must get up to date. They must also show proof of 2 Varicella -Chicken Pox Vaccines.
It is important that you begin now, to ensure your child get their vaccination and to avoid appointment delays.
Receiving the immunizations and ensuring they are up to date now, will not only protect them against Pertussis, but also ensure class placement and prevent exclusion from school in the coming year. No 7th-12 grade students will be allowed to attend school next year without up to date immunizations.

Our TK students had so much fun celebrating their dads this week! First, they created a Father’s Day Toolbox, which included extra-special descriptions of their dads on a: saw, drill, hammer, and tape measure. Then, each child created and decorated a picture to present to their dad at our Father’s Day Luncheon. On Friday afternoon, we were very excited to welcome our dads to enjoy lunch with us on the playard. It was a fun-filled event, and we are grateful to everyone who took the time out of their day to attend! Next on the agenda, is our Evening of Excellence; it will be next Tuesday, June 18th at 5pm. Be sure to save the date!

Science with Ms. Diaz
Our plants have sprouted and we have determined that the range of tolerance for plant growth with radish, pea, barley and corn seeds is between 40-80 mL of water. The optimum amount of water seems to be 80 mL based on both the number of sprouts and the measured height of the tallest plant. We had our last test of the year today, Friday June 14th, and are coming around to the the final leg of the DCS school year race! We start our last activity of the year next week, studying salt tolerance of plants and will report back to you soon!

Many apprentices go on to secure full-time jobs at the Laboratory, which was named one of Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work in 2019. Students also will tour the Lab’s advanced manufacturing facilities.
The application deadline has been extended to June 7. To apply, fill out page two of the flier below and submit it to LLNL Manufacturing Engineering Section Superintendent Pete Schoenenberger via email (mailto:turner56@llnl.gov).
