We are down to just a couple more weeks of school and students are still very busy completing projects, finishing Fast Track, preparing for promotions and moving up a grade next year. Our staff is working hard completing enrollment for next year and are already getting exciting about incoming classes.

I would like to take this time to especially thank the parents, staff and students for another successful year at the Tracy Learning Center. It has been a good year. Our PCS Classes enjoyed hosting our annual “Volunteer Appreciation Unity” and our Kitchen Staff did a lovely job preparing them a breakfast brunch.

There are many reasons for us to be thankful for the Tracy Learning Center!

Personal Days for Next School Year 2019/2020

VERY IMPORTANT CHANGE for our upcoming 2019/2020 school year Beginning August 5, 2019, we are reducing personal/family days for students from 10 days down to 7 days. Allowing 7 days is still much higher than what the district schools allow and we feel 7 days is more beneficial for the school and for each students’ education.

All Medications

Please pick all meds in the office up no later than Monday, June 24, 2019.

Every year we have to throw away so many expensive prescriptions because parents fail to pick them up in the office prior to Summer Break. Please come and pick up your child’s meds ASAP so we won’t have to dispose them.

Incoming 7th Graders – Very Important!

As required by California law, (Health and Safety Code 120325 – 120375), parents need to provide proof of receiving the Tdap vaccine (Pertussis – Whooping Cough Booster) and proof of receiving 2 doses of Varicella (Chicken Pox) Vaccine

All students entering 7th – 12th grades must have proof of a Tdap booster shot. Documentation must state the shot was given on or after their 7th birthday. This means ALL current 6th graders must get up to date. They must also show proof of 2 Varicella -Chicken Pox Vaccines.

It is important that you begin now, to ensure your child get their vaccination and to avoid appointment delays.

Receiving the immunizations and ensuring they are up to date now, will not only protect them against Pertussis, but also ensure class placement and prevent exclusion from school in the coming year. No 7th-12 grade students will be allowed to attend school next year without up to date immunizations.

Primary Music

Dear Parents,

The Primary Spring Music Program will be on Thursday, June 13. The students and I are so excited to be sharing our music with you! Please have them dress nicely for the performances.

All performances are in the TLC Gym.

Kindergarten (P2) will perform at 1:00 pm.

Phase 1 (P3, P4, & P5) will perform at 6:30 pm

Phase 2 (P6, P7 & P8) will perform second (starting about 6:50 pm)

Please have the Phase 1 students report to their regular classrooms by 6:10 pm.

Phase 2 students need to be in their classrooms no later than 6:30 pm.

Please pick your children up from their classrooms after the performance.

This week in TK, we worked on Memory Books, and shared stories of our wonderful year together in TK!

Here are some of the memories that the children shared:

Initial Phase

Our awesome student leadership will start a school supply drive for for EA Family Services, an organization that helps place and support foster children. We will also be collecting toiletry items and snacks. We will be collecting from June 10th to the 21st.

Please mark down on your calendar that the last day of school is THURSDAY, June 27th and we will have an early release day. All of PRIMARY students only will be released at 11:30.

We would like to thank all of our P2 parent volunteers. Your help is appreciated and valued by both teachers and students. THANK YOU!

Phase One:

We are nearing the end of the school year and with that means a lot of fun events. Our music performance is Thursday at 6:30. Please drop your child off in their classroom by 6:10 that evening. Phase two music performance will follow immediately after.

Next week will be our last week of homework and we will begin reviewing everything that we have learned this trimester.

Our last day of school is Thursday, June 27th and the students will be released at 11:30. Please make sure to make any needed accommodations for pick up that day.

Phase Two:

Our 3rd and 4th graders have finished their state testing and we are so proud of their hard work! We are eagerly awaiting their scores!

There are many events coming up in June for our Phase 2 students. Please note the following dates:

Thank you for your yearbook orders. They will be arriving by the last week of school. If you were unable to pre-order your yearbook, a few will be available for purchase the last week of school for $55.00 in cash to the office.

DCS Water Day Carnival is fast approaching and I am in need of more parent volunteers to help out. Thank you to those families who have already reached out.

It is a really fun day and they kids have a blast but there are many moving parts.

Special Experience with Ms. Pelaez in MHS

Ms. Pelaez took some lucky students to do an activity with her MHS Forensics class and they did a fingerprinting activity! Thank you for the awesome experience and DCS misses you tons Ms. Pelaez!

A Message From Ms. Dane- Ms. Dane’s Verbal Expressions/Mock Trial teams

“She did it! No, he did it! I object your Honor! Sustained, Over-ruled “- Just some of the statements heard during the Mock Trial Camp that 16 of our students attended on June 3 and 4 at Venture Academy in Stockton. During the course of intensive training and fun, students learned the basics of Defense and Prosecution, Opening Statements and Closing Arguments and joined with other students from the county to participate in Venture Academy’s yearly event. It was a fantastic opportunity to work with their High School team which is rated #5 in California.

Incoming 6th graders joined with 7th and 8th graders to prepare for next year’s Winning teams and Individual Students.- If the past is a predictor of the future TLC/Discovery should again make a fabulous showing at the County Competition. Major Congratulations to all of our participants – my personal thanks to the support from Mrs. Stewart, Coach B, and all of the parents who sent their children.

SUPER Quiz for ⅚- Congratulations to all of our students who were selected to participate in our very own DCS Trimester 3 Super Quiz! You did a great job representing DCS up there!!

Science with Ms. Diaz

Can you change environmental conditions to make things viable for organisms?? The answer is YES! By adding more salt to the hatcheries, students were able to get more shrimp eggs to hatch. Students also submitted their Brine Shrimp Investigation project booklets and started their next project booklet about the “Range of Tolerance” for plant growth. There will be a test on what was taught so far on Tuesday, June 11th. Keep exploring!

Social Studies with Mr. Bird

This week, we are finishing up our unit on the “Road to the Revolution” learning about the causes to the American Revolution. Students created a flip book to organize their work on the Coercive (Intolerable) Acts and will be creating a timeline to review the events surrounding the Battles of Lexington and Concord. We are also watching four episodes of Liberty’s Kids to extend our knowledge of the American Revolution. Liberty’s Kids is a great animated series for kids that showcases many of the events in this unit.

CJSF:

This week 43 members of our CJSF club went on a field trip tour of UC Davis! The students had the opportunity to tour the campus and ask questions about the admissions process and campus life. It was a huge success!

Language Arts with Mrs. Zo:

This week students have been given all of the final information for their end of the year projects! They have one individual project that follows our final book of the year and one group project. Students will spend ample time to review and work on these projects in the final weeks of school!

Math with Mr. Singh

Varsity-Started unit-8 linear Functions & Graphing, Completed 8-1 Relations & Functions, 8-2 equations with two variables, doing 8-3 slope and y-intercept

Honors- Started unit-10 Circles, Competed 10-1 Properties of circles, 10-2 Chords & Arcs, 10.3 Inscribed Angles,10.4 circular angle measures, doing 10.5 circular segment measures

Choir with Mr. Dougherty:

Mr. Dougherty’s music classes are gearing up for the end of the trimester performance. The third trimester concert is coming up and there are some changes this trimester. The concert will take place in the gym on June 19th, but this time it will take place during the school day. All four of my classes will perform together twice, once for the remaining 5/6 classes and then once more for the 7/8 classes. As always, there will be some new and creative elements added to the concert.

NOW HIRING: Athletic Coaches

For High School students interested in being machinists

Through the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Manufacturing Workshop taking place in July, high school students will have the unique opportunity to get hands-on experience with the state-of-the-art tools and hardware used by Laboratory scientists and engineers. During the three-day workshop, students will learn what it takes to become a career machinist from the Laboratory’s highly skilled veteran machinists and graduates of the Lab’s Machinist Apprentice Program — one of the most highly regarded programs of its kind in the state. Many apprentices go on to secure full-time jobs at the Laboratory, which was named one of Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work in 2019. Students also will tour the Lab’s advanced manufacturing facilities.

The application deadline has been extended to June 7. To apply, fill out page two of the flier below and submit it to LLNL Manufacturing Engineering Section Superintendent Pete Schoenenberger via email (mailto:turner56@llnl.gov). Applicants can expect to hear from LLNL regarding participation in this workshop by June 18.
