Monday Memo

We are in a critical moment in our nation’s path towards racial justice and equality. Our hearts are broken at what we have seen and heard this past week. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and many other African Americans who have lost their lives in racially motivated tragedies in such a short amount of time.

Our goal at TLC is to treat everyone the same and with respect, regardless of the color of one’s skin. We promise to ensure the safety for all of our students and to show respect and concern for them and for their feelings. We must value the life of every single person in our school and in our country, and we must continue to provide opportunities for all people to succeed. Everyone must be a part of the solution. This includes teachers, students, parents, and community stakeholders. And to those students and teachers who represent these targeted populations, TLC stands with these groups for positive change.

What if 2020 isn’t canceled?

What if 2020 is the year we’ve been waiting for?

A year so uncomfortable, so painful, so scary, so raw —- that it finally forces us to grow.

A year that screams so loud, finally awakening us from our ignorant slumber.

A year we finally accept the need for change.

Declare change. Work for change. Become the change.

A year we finally band together, instead of pushing each other further apart.

2020 isn’t canceled, but rather the most important year of them all.

Papi, Mami & Sisters ❤

One would think that after teaching anyone for four straight years, they might be tired of it. Yet that is not true at all, especially for you! I have had sooo much fun being your teacher! One of my favorite things from this school year was having you in my homeroom. Even though you were still half asleep in the mornings, you brought so much joy to class with your witty comments! Enjoy high school!

Ms. Zaca

Christian,

You always seem to bring a smile to my face in class whether it was through your amazing artistic ability and the pictures you made for me or the joke that would make the whole class laugh. What can I say about Violet Duncan? She’s incredibly smart, quick witted, sarcastic, and keeps me and her classmates on our toes. She has been a joy to have in class since day one, and sets a high bar for every other student in the room. There is not a single goal this young lady won’t reach in her life if she sets her mind to it, and I can’t wait to see what she will achieve. Congratulations, Violet!

Ms. Dominguez

Maddie Johnson has been an Amazing student here at Discovery for the last four years. Her willingness to always reach out and help our “Discovery Community” as well as our “Tracy Community” – where need be – without hesitation has always been appreciated! Maddie will truly be missed! Here’s to Success in High School Ms. Johnson as I’m sure you’ll continue to be a role model and leader though not only your words but also your actions as well!!!!

Coach Williams 🙂

Maddie, you have always been such a fantastic addition to my Language Arts classes. You are smart, innovative, and have such a great sense of humor! I will miss seeing you giggle at my expense. Good luck and congratulations!

Mrs. Cerezo

Max Garcia

Max is one of the most bravest, courageous, intellectual, boldest and tender hearted person I know. He’s definitely a lover not a fighter but he will fight for his truth. He’s had to battle his own adversity and it’s shaped him to who he is and I couldn’t be more PROUD to call him my son! Keep Falling Forward son! You got this!

-Garcia Family

Max! Over this year you have opened up to me and I thank you! You have brought your vibrant personality to class and you are so athletic it is ridiculous! Strive for good grades so that you are able to succeed in your athletics in high school. Keep giving all effort to your work and congrats!

Ms. Greene

Max,

I am so proud of you. You have worked so hard this year and those efforts have shown tremendously. Keep up the good work and always work hard like that. Mrs. Rapp

Good job, Mac. I knew you could do it! I know you are a smart one and don’t let anyone tell you different. This is your time to focus and show us what you can do! Congrats!

Mrs. Rios

Isabella Jepsen

Isabella is truly a gift. She is growing up to be a beautiful young lady. She is a great big sister. She is smart. She is driven. She is hilarious. I can’t believe she’ll be a freshman soon. We know she is going to achieve greatness. When she was in elementary school at Jacobson she ran for Vice President and won, then she ran for President and won that as well. She has accumulated so many awards over time I’m running out of space to display them all. Isabella, know that you are loved and we ack.nowledge all your achievements. You don’t need anyone’s validation to do what you want to do. Never settle for less even if it means losing friendships. Continue to shoot for the stars and when you get knocked down get right back up and keep repeating until you reach your goals. Hard work pays off. We believe in you. We’re you #1 fans. On to the next chapter. Xoxo

Jepsen Family

Isabella, you impressed me so much this year! You have made incredible progress in Language Arts and I have greatly enjoyed getting to teach you! Good luck in high school!

Mrs. Cerezo

Kimberly Ng

Kimberly has been an incredible student to work with for the last 2 years, and I can honestly say that I’m impressed every single day with her incredible academic ability. This girl is one of a kind and so gifted in so many ways. I can’t wait to see what the future holds, because I know that whatever she chooses to do, she will excel. Congratulations, Kimberly! I’m so proud of you!

Ms. Dominguez

Kimberly, you have always been a very quiet student, but also such a bombshell of knowledge and intelligence. I could always count on you to grasp everything I have ever had the privilege of teaching you! I can’t wait to see what you achieve! Congratulations!

Mrs. Cerezo

Marcie Dumont

Marcie, Marcie, Marcie! I am beyond BUMMED we are finishing the year this way. You have been such an amazing student these last four years. I still remember the days you were my music student! I have no doubt in my mind you will do amazing in high school. You always were the student that every teacher could count on. A problem us teachers had? Ask Marcie to help us, she will know how to solve this problem! Good luck in high school (though I know you don’t need it)!

Ms. Zaca

Marcie,

I am so glad that I got to have you in my class this year. You are a wonderful student that works hard and diligently. Keep that up! I know that you will do and achieve great things in high school. Ms. Greene

Chelsea!! My little, sassy girl. I still remember the day you told me my eyebrows looked like Kyle Jenners (HUGE COMPLIMENT). I have watched you grow into such a beautiful person, inside and out. You are so confident, and I hope that confidence does not go away, ever! I will miss being your social studies teacher 🙁

Ms. Zaca

Isaac Flores

I never got to teach Issac but I was his den leader when he came to our school. Issac is always respectful and has great sportsmanship in and out of the classroom. He is very hardworking and a wonderful gentleman and friend. Issac, I wish you the very best on the next part of your journey and I know you will accomplish so much.

Mrs. Zuniga

I have had the pleasure of teaching Issac Flores for the past almost 2 years. He has always been nothing but a respectful, helpful child in my class. He always helped me with Nest cards and participated in class daily. He is a very good Spanish student who always tries his best in class. I wish you nothing but the best in High School and in life Issac! Best of luck

Ms. Polo

Jaevin Nolido

I have had the pleasure of having Jaevin while I was doing a long term sub position and for the remainder of the year as I stayed on in a supervisory capacity. The phrase “Still water runs deep” comes to mind when I think of Jaevin. He doesn’t want you to know how smart he is or what’s going on in his head. I am sure he will do something great when he decides on what he wants to do and dedicates himself to it.

Mrs. King

Jaevin, It has been a pleasure to see your confidence blossom. You are a thoughtful and capable young man. I know that you will do great things. I wish you the best as you continue to learn and grow.

Mr. Dougherty
