Week #3 – TLC Distance Learning

A Message from the Director

Two weeks are over and the learning curve for our students and teachers has been remarkable.
Teachers have learned so many ways to help engage students in synchronous learning. Students are doing a great job of participating.
We could not ask for hotter weather! I hope you are finding some cool parts for your day! With the hot weather, however, we do have some blackouts. It may affect Zoom and be in class. We understand and are prepared if that happens.
On the website are the school action plans for this school year and the LCAP plans for each school (LINK). The difference in the two types of plans is that the school action plan considers all students and how to best move the school forward in culture, curriculum, and instruction. The LCAP plans focus on how each school supports at-risk, ELL, and special needs students during distance and in-person instruction. Both plans for all three schools are on the website for your review.
The most exciting news is that the schools are not ignoring Back to School Nights. They will be available to you through email and on the website. The great part is since it is online, you do not have to worry about missing it. I am very grateful to the staff for continuing this tradition in a new way.
We also do appreciate your feedback from the latest TLC Distance Learning.  We are presenting the results at our TLC Board Meeting this today (Monday August 17th at 6pm)

Week 3, WOW!  We have to give a big thank you to all the parents who are helping us navigate this challenging way of learning.  Our staff is determined to make this time meaningful and valuable.  Online learning is difficult but we will continue to work on helping make sure this time is beneficial to your students.  Your feedback is appreciated and we hope you continue to work with us in making this time as meaningful as possible.

DCS

Good morning,

We are so happy to have everyone back to school and our new Distance Learning Program up and running. Thank you all for being so patient and willing to work with us as we problem-solve and develop Distance Learning into a successful online teaching program. We are pleased that classes are going well and students seem to be quickly adapting to the new online experience. Below are some announcements/reminders:
Leadership applications will be sent out tonight to all students on google classroom. They will be due August 21. Leadership students will meet once a week from 1-2pm and will sign up to a google classroom dedicated to leadership (this will not be a graded class, but an optional elective for those who wish to be involved). More information will be given out to those accepted. This will only be available to 6th-8th graders!
Parents/guardians, please remind your students that it is imperative to treat online classes as they would a normal school day. Cameras need to be on and microphones need to be working. If there are technical issues involved that prevent things please see the email below and please ask your students to let their teachers know in advance so that they do not lose any participation points. Along with that, please also remind students that they should not be on their phones, watching tv, playing video games, or chatting with their friends on other tabs while in their virtual classes – not only does this slow their bandwidth and make their connectivity glitchy but distracts them from the activities in their classes. Teachers are reminding their students of this daily, but we also appreciate all of the support you provide at home. Thank you!
Aeries is now up and working for students and parents to view. Teachers will begin sending home grade reports this week via Aeries and will continue to do so every other week.
If you are still experiencing any issues with technology or connectivity please reach out to tlctechsupport@tracylc.net for additional assistance.
Mrs. Prescott has started a Google Classroom for counseling information and services: Discovery Counseling Corner. Beginning Monday, August 17th, Mrs. Prescott will be offering drop-in counseling via Zoom every Monday and Friday from 1-2pm. The link is in her Google Classroom, code: qxe5cac. If there are students in the waiting room, sessions will be limited to 10 minutes and a one-on-one follow up appointment will be scheduled. To schedule time with Mrs. Prescott outside of these hours, please feel free to contact her via email at any time: kprescott@tracylc.net. Each week, she also will be adding fun, interesting, and useful information to help students and families with mind, body, and social emotional wellness. Make sure to join her Google Classroom and check in every week to see what’s new!
Have a wonderful week and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

MHS

In case you haven’t heard, many of us have been losing power the last few days due to the heatwave.

We understand this may affect how students access their classes.  If you are able to use a cell phone to connect to Zoom, all you need is the Zoom app and the Google Classroom app.

We understand the challenges students face at home and please be assured we will help you work through any issues.

HELLO Falcons. Clubs are back and starting soon! Check out the attached form to see what’s going on…
