Special Education

Bringing social-emotional learning into the home adds personalization and relevance for children. It gives students real-world opportunities to plan, problem-solve, and reflect as they grow their social-emotional skills. It strengthens relationships among family members, encouraging regular and ongoing conversations between parent and child. Bringing social-emotional learning into the home empowers families to use life’s moments, both good and bad, as ways to help their child grow.

TLC Charter Chatter – No School Monday, Feb 20th

TLC Charter Chatter

News, Information, and Updates for Primary, Discovery, and Millennium Charter Schools

A Message from our CEO, Carolyn Woods

TLC Proudly Celebrates Black History Month!

The Millennium High School Black Student Union kicked off the celebration with a door decorating contest. Students designed and decorated classroom doors following a rubric that called for creativity and connections to the curriculum. The doors were judged by members of the BSU along with representatives from the Tracy African American Association. We applaud the hard work and effort demonstrated by all!

Other celebrations around campus:

MHS math students created nets for 3-D Geometrical shapes and decorated them in honor of Black History Month.

PCS students are reading and learning about famous African Americans who have made a difference.

TLC Charter Chatter – We DO have school THIS Monday, February 13th

TLC Charter Chatter

News, Information, and Updates for Primary, Discovery, and Millennium Charter Schools

A Message from our CEO, Carolyn Woods

This a friendly reminder to all TLC families that Primary, Discovery, and Millennium do not have this Monday, Feb 13th off.  We do have NEXT Monday, February 20th off in honor of President’s Day.

MHS Highlights:

This week our Chemistry classes got a chance to meet with a very special scientist in the field of organic biosensors.   We really appreciate Dr Toby Nelson for taking the time to speak with our students and answer their questions.  It is a great opportunity for them to get some real world experience to go along with their lessons.  Thank you Dr Nelson and Mrs Paleaz!

Toby L. Nelson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Director of Student Engagement and STEM Initiatives in the College of Arts and Sciences at Oklahoma State University. Professor Nelson’s research program covers the design and synthesis of organic semiconductors, polymer chemistry, green chemistry, mechanochemistry, organic electronics, biosensors, bioelectronics and the development of bioinspired materials based on the natural pigment, Melanin.  His current research focuses on the design and synthesis of organic materials via green methods such as green solvent usage, C-H functionalization and solvent-free techniques like high-speed ball-milled reactions.

He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Francis Marion University and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of South Carolina. Dr. Nelson was also a UNCF-Merck Postdoctoral Fellow in organic materials at Carnegie Mellon University under the advisement of Professor Richard D. McCullough (now President of Florida State University).

A Message from our CEO, Carolyn Woods

You may notice our campus solar project is in the final stages.  We have a lot of heavy equipment on site as they begin connecting our new solar panel structures to our electrical system.   The construction team has assured me they will not interfere with classes but please be aware during carlines that heavy equipment may be moving around.  We cannot wait to have our new system up and running in time for the sunshine!

Special Education

Like all professions, education and special education have their own “language.” Sometimes, in the interest of efficiency, we use abbreviations or acronyms, which we realize can be confusing. To help you, we offer this partial list of frequently used acronyms.

(*Note: MR has since been renamed ID- Intellectually Disabled- In 2010, President Barack Obama signed “Rosa’s Law” which made this a US federal law)
