The students were all very much focused and on task this week and we had lots of fun dressing up in “spirit wear” all week.

All rooms have field trips coming up in the next couple of weeks; please make sure that permission slips are sent in.

Thank you to Leisa Mendez and John for surprising us with goats at Friday unity.

Remember on Monday we celebrate Memorial Day, so there will be no school.

DCS 5th/6th

Reading News:

As we get closer to the end of the school year the classroom bookshelves are looking a little bare.  Please remember that students need to return borrowed classroom books by the end of the school year.

Ms. Rodieck will be sending out one more book order so Summer Reading can be ordered – wouldn’t it be great to come back in August all ready to earn some AR points from books read over the summer.  Book Orders will be coming home end of this week and will be due Tuesday, June 3rd to ensure we get them by the last week of school.

Many students were chosen to be published in the Spring Edition of the Poetry Anthology.  They were given the postcard proof sheets on Tuesday.  Please check them and go on-line to give permission to publish – you DO NOT need to order a book to be published.  If you cannot give permission to publish on-line, fill out the card and return it – Ms. Rodieck will mail them all in at the same time.  The due date on these is Thursday, June 5th.  Thank you in advance for supporting our budding poets.

Classroom Needs:

Wind and allergies have left our classrooms desperately in need of tissue box donations. Please consider sending a box of tissues to school for our students to use.

State Testing:

State testing will conclude next week for students in 5th and 6th grade. Thank you for helping us keep excellent attendance for the test taking dates.

Rummage Sale:

The first DCS Rummage Sale fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, May 31 from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM.  Thank you for putting aside gently used items to bring for donation to this event. Make sure your items are clean and in working order. Early donation of smaller items will be accepted on Friday, May 30th. Larger items can be brought directly to the event. Questions? Contact Ms. Pelaez at lpelaez@tracylc.net

This week in PHSA….

In Mr. Mitri’s class, students are reading Shakespeare’s play The Winter’s Tale and working on developing their own summarized scripts to use in group presentations.

In science enrichment, students have started to learn about the Law of Conservation of Mass. This week students also learned how to balance chemical equations.

Fast Track began this week with a seamless transition from the regular school year to our mandatory summer program.  Each morning will continue with Unity at 7:55am with classes ending at 12:30pm.  Daily on time attendance is crucial during Fast Track.    Four tardies is equal to one full day of absence.  Any combination of tardies and/or absences of more than 2 days will result in an automatic failing grade regardless of the reason.  We appreciate your support in promoting the importance of attendance and punctuality with your child.
